  2. physically distinctive group of people, on
  3. the basis of difference from other groups in
  4. skin colour, head shape, hair type, and
  5. physique. Formerly anthropologists divided
  6. the human race into three hypothetical racial
  7. groups: Caucasoid, Mongoloid, and Negroid.
  8. However, scientific studies have failed to
  9. indicate any absolute confirmation of genetic
  10. racial divisions. Many anthropologists today
  11. thus completely reject the concept of race,
  12. and social scientists tend to prefer the term
  13. ethnic group (see ethnicity).
