  5. !PdCat is an on line database listing all PD fonts available
  6. from the EFF. They are in Risc OS 3 formats suitable for all
  7. the modern computers from Acorn.
  8.  
  9. Using !Pdcat
  10. ------------
  11.  
  12. In order to use !PdCat you need to double-click on its icon,
  13. it will itself no the Icon Bar.  When you click on its icon
  14. on the Icon Bar a window will open. 
  15.  
  16. You can then:
  17.   a) see lists of fonts,
  18.   b) see samples of all the fonts at various point sizes,
  19.   c) install any fonts into your computer,
  20.   d) or search the DataBase for a particular font.

  22. a) see lists of fonts
  23.  
  24. Since there is a large number of fonts, they have been split
  25. into directories "A", "B",... depending on which letter the
  26. font name starts.
  27.  
  28. b) see samples of all the fonts at various point sizes
  29.  
  30. If you enable "Font sample" option, !PdCat will display a
  31. sample for any font selected. The size of the sample can be
  32. adjusted using "Sample size" option.
  33.  
  34. c) install any fonts into your computer
  35.  
  36. You may select any Font Directory that has been seen by the
  37. System. If your computer does not do that automatically,
  38. please find them manually any double click on them - they
  39. ara usually called "!Fonts".

  41. I a given Font Directory is selected then you can load the
  42. current font into that directory by clicking on
  43.   "Install this font option".
  44. The installed font becomes immediately available to all your
  45. applications.

  47. d) or search the DataBase for a particular font
  48.  
  49. You can type in any string into "Search for" window and by
  50. clicking repeatedly on the "Next Match" icon, all the fonts
  51. which have that string in their name will be dispalayed.
  52.  
  53. The search is not case sensative and can be as short as you
  54. like. For instance, if you type "a", all the fonts having
  55. letter "a" in their name will be displayed - not a very
  56. useful. But if you type "script", all the fonts with are
  57. called "something script something" will be displayed, a
  58. more useful search.
