  1. UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS 
  2. for 
  3. Upgrading to CFT-Win Version 2.50 for Windows 95/98/NT
  4. ------------------------------------------------------
  5. Cumberland Family Software, www.cf-software.com

  7.    This step is needed for ALL upgrade options if downloading from the
  8.    internet: Unzip download file (cftw250x.zip) to a temporary folder 
  9.    (such as c:\temp).

  11. Option 1: Upgrading from an earlier CFT-Win Ver 2 for Windows 95/98/NT
  12.  
  13.    Run INSTALL.EXE either from the temporary folder or from the CFT-Win
  14.    diskettes. Make sure to install to the same directory/folder as the 
  15.    older version resides (normally c:\cftw). When prompted to add icons
  16.    to Start Menu, check the box to NOT add the icons, since you already
  17.    have them there. Press OK to continue when asked for second disk. 
  18.    (Make sure to swap disks if you have the second disk. If installing 
  19.    from downloaded file simply press OK.)

  21. Option 2: Upgrading from CFT-Win Version 2 for Windows 3.1
  22.  
  23.    Before running INSTALL.EXE remove the icons from the Start Menu. You
  24.    can do this by pressing Start -> Settings -> Taskbar and clicking on
  25.    the Start Menu tab. Press the Remove Button and remove the "Cumberland
  26.    Family Tree" grouping. (This step is necessary because the program 
  27.    executable is cftw32.exe for the new program and cftw16.exe for the 
  28.    old program. Without this step the icon will continue to run the old 
  29.    version of the program.)

  31.    Run INSTALL.EXE either from the temporary folder or from the CFT-Win 
  32.    diskettes. Make sure to install to the same directory/folder as the 
  33.    older version resides (normally c:\cftw).  Press OK to continue when 
  34.    asked for second disk. (Make sure to swap disks if you have the second 
  35.    disk. If installing from downloaded file simply press OK.)

  37. Option 3: Upgrading from CFT-Win Version 1

  39.    Before running INSTALL.EXE remove the icons from the Start Menu. You 
  40.    can do this by pressing Start -> Settings -> Taskbar and clicking on 
  41.    the Start Menu tab. Press the Remove Button and remove the "Cumberland 
  42.    Family Tree" grouping. (This step is necessary because the program 
  43.    executable is cftw32.exe for the new program and cftw.exe for the old 
  44.    program. Without this step the icon will continue to run the old 
  45.    version of the program.)

  53.    When you first open a Ver 1 database the program will automatically
  54.    detect the old file layout and do a conversion. SO be prepared to wait
  55.    for each of your old databases to be converted the first time you open
  56.    one.

  58. Option 4: Upgrading from CFT-Pro for DOS
  59.  
  60.    Do not remove the old CFT-Pro program or databases until you feel 
  61.    assured that you have properly transfered all your databases.

  63.    Run INSTALL.EXE either from the temporary folder or from the CFT-Win 
  64.    diskettes - as though this were a new installation. Create a New 
  65.    Database in CFT-Win. Go to the File Menu and select the Import/Export
  66.    Options and select the CFT-Pro Import. Selecting your old CFT-Pro 
  67.    databases and import them to the new program.

  69. Option 5: Upgrading from other Genealogy Software Programs
  70.  
  71.    You must create a GEDCOM file from your old genealogy software 
  72.    program. Please refer to the Help or printed manual for your old 
  73.    program for instructions on how to do this.

  75.    Run INSTALL.EXE either from the temporary folder or from the CFT-Win
  76.    diskettes - as though this were a new installation. Create a New 
  77.    Database in CFT-Win. Go to the File Menu and select the Import/Export
  78.    Options and select the GEDCOM Import to bring in the GEDCOM file created
  79.    by your old program.
