  12. 12,"boyinth","bachalo",1,12,0,"Boy in the Bubble","For this image I used a B&W photo of the facade and two colour transparencies (the boy and the girl) from my personal stock library. Once I had the image worked out 'in my head' it was simply a matter of execution. The b&w image of the facade was colorized using the arbitrary map option in Photoshop. The bubble effect was created using the spherize filter in conjunction with pasting using varying levels of transparency. Final touches included the reflections and 'pond ripple' effect to give the illusion of water. Adobe Photoshop was used exclusively. Total execution time: approx: 10 hrs."

  138. 214,"night5","fenster",3,1,0,"Night 5 (Fine Art)","In this series of seventeen images, I am exploring the frozen moment that is at the center of transition: transition from dark to light, from low tide to high tide, from collective to individual, from unconsciousness to consciousness, from life to death and rebirth. Each of these states is a plane of existence, separated by a veil between the worlds. At the point of emergence the veil grows thin, allowing transformation to occur, bringing about a new state of being. My primary image sources for this series are still video frames photographed with the Canon Xapshot still video camera  This camera was originally designed as a consumer model camera where the user could view the images on a television screen. Because of this, the initial image quality is low resolution with a jagged appearance to the edges and outlines of objects.The Xapshot provides a raw image with a sense of immediacy to it.  The video frames are instantly available to the computer without having to process and print film and then scan it back into the computer. The still video frames are then opened in Adobe Photoshop software on the Macintosh computer by using a frame grabber board to capture the images. By using a combination of filtering and photomanipulation techniques that the software provides and with the addition of visual material created from scanned images as well as the use of wholly computer created artifacts, I can push the quality and scope of the original image past the point from which it was originally  intended and into the realm of experimental imaging."

  285. 137,"mordor10","dodson",4,74,0,"Mordor 10","Created with Fractint, VistaPro 3.1 CD-ROM and Improces.  This is the first image I generated with VistaPro that I thought had serious potential (after two months of owning the program).  I imported a Fractint derived Mandelbrot into Vistapro and played around for weeks to find the right camera angle.  The sky is a plasma map generated using Improces's selective palette plasma options.  Once generated, I felt something was missing although the image had something going for it.  I finally decided on lightning as the finishing touch and spent around 20 hours learning how to draw lightning pixel-by-pixel using Improces in a virtual mode (the screen is broken up into multiple 320x200 virtual screens).  Lots of versions went into the garbage can, but I think this final image represents the mood of Tolkien's story - Mordor as a desolate brooding land populated by evil creatures."
