- WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 2.11
-
-
- o Reorganized the documentation and distribution .ZIP
- file so that the basics for getting started are not
- lost in the details of the advanced features.
-
- o Started using the "authenticity verification" (-AV)
- option of PKZIP so that users will know that they
- have the original distribution files.
-
- o LASTBYTE: The unlicensed version no longer places
- any restrictions on the user, such as the 32k limit
- on High-DOS memory. Instead, it stops during each
- boot, presents a brief notice that the software is
- not licensed, delays 30 seconds while showing
- seconds remaining, then prompts the user to "Press
- any key to continue".
-
- o LICENSE, LASTBYTE: Eliminated the LICENSE.EXE
- program and the need for the LASTBYTE.KEY file.
- The user's name and access key are now specified as
- LASTBYTE.SYS options, as in:
-
- NAME=Daniel_W._Lewis <--- Note: Spaces must be
- KEY=12345678 replaced by underscores!
-
- o LASTBYTE, CHIPSET: Added support for ETEQ's
- "Bobcat" 82C391 and "Bengal" 82C4901 chipsets.
-
- o HIGHDRVR: Now properly loads hi device drivers
- containing more than one device.
-
- o HIGHDRVR: No longer leaves a stub in low memory for
- block devices.
-
- o HIGHDISK: No longer leaves a stub in low memory.
-
- o HIGHTSR: No longer leaves a stub in conventional
- memory when used in an INSTALL=HIGHTSR.EXE <tsr>
- command. When used with its new /CLOSE (handles)
- option, this has the added advantage that it allows
- DOSMAX to move the subsegments into the UMA and
- still run Windows.
-
- o LASTBYTE: Shadow ram memory disabled by a real EMS
- board can now be accessed as Bank-Switch memory.
-
- o HIGHDISK: Can now preload files during CONFIG.SYS
- processing. Simply add one or more filespecs on
- the command line, each preceeded by a dollar sign,
- as in:
-
- DEVICE=HIGHDISK.SYS 50 $PRELOAD.DAT $C:\TLBMM\HIGHTSR.EXE
-

-
- WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 2.11
-
-
-
- An "indirect" file (e.g., DEVICE=HIGHDISK.SYS 50
- @HIGHDISK.OPT) containing one or more options per
- line can be used instead if the list is too long.
-
- o HIGHMEM: Now displays status of the High Memory
- Area (HMA), i.e., the first 64k of extended memory
- and controlled by HIMEM.SYS.
-
- o HIGHMEM: Now properly identifies DOS subsegments
- (FILES, FCBS, BUFFERS, STACKS, etc.) loaded high by
- DOSMAX.
-
- o LASTBYTE.SYS: Reduced the size of the resident
- image.
-
- o HIGHUMM: Reduced the size of the resident image
- when not using the /EXTRA option (default).
-
- o HIGHDRVR, HIGHTSR: Improved error reporting when
- DOS load overlay (load and execute) function fails
- to load device driver (TSR).
-
- o LASTBYTE: Improved recognition of small buffer rams
- on some hard disk controller cards.
-
- o INSTALL: Added HIGHRSVD.SYS to the list of files
- copied into the TLBMM directory. (HIGHRSVD.EXE was
- already in the list.)
-
- o LASTBYTE: Corrected problem in LIM4EMS physical
- driver that left some mappable segments visible to
- applications even though those segments had been
- taken over by LASTBYTE.SYS.
-
- o LASTBYTE: Corrected problem in detection of
- required minimum of 1 megabyte of motherboard
- memory. Affects the following NEAT chipset (and
- equivalent) low-level physical drivers: 82C212,
- 82C241, 82C812, 82C841, UM82C212, 82S411.
-
- o LASTBYTE: Corrected a problem in the processing of
- the Physical option.
-
- o LASTBYTE: SUNTAC and TI chipsets (with write-only
- configuration registers) - Fixed a problem with
- warm-boot after cold-boot. LASTBYTE.SYS didn't
- correctly deduce the register values when
- warm-booting.
-

-
-
- o HIGHUMM: Corrected a bug that could occur when
- HIGHUMM is attached to an existing XMS driver that
- implements the new XMS version 3.0 function 12h
- (Reallocate UMB block).
