  1. MEMPHIS BELLE ..... THE TRUE STORY

  3. The BELLE BASTARDS had become masters at
  4. low level bombing and just before reaching
  5. the target they would suddenly drop out of
  6. the sky by faking that they had been shot
  7. down.  Going into a deep dive they would
  8. use smoke cannisters, fireworks, even toss
  9. hand grenades out the rear for special
  10. effects.  Anything to make it look like
  11. their plane was blowing up.  Then
  12. miraculously they would appear back at
  13. home base some hours later claiming half
  14. a dozen victories and 20 to 30 buildings
  15. demolished.  In actuality, they levelled
  16. out and landed their plane in a field well
  17. hidden by trees.  Here they would sit and
  18. watch while their buddies got the shit
  19. kicked outta them upstairs.  After the
  20. battle was over and the enemy fighters
  21. had landed, they would attack their
  22. airfield before they had a chance to
  23. refuel.  Having demolished the airfield
  24. they then went after the flak batteries.
  25. Everything else after that was like
  26. shooting fish in a barrel.  This is the
  27. main reason their kills were so high
  28. and they were heralded as heroes.
  29.  
  30. They may have blown up alot of buildings
  31. but by vacating their position in the main
  32. Bomber Attack, they left a gapping hole
  33. for Nazi Fighters to penetrate the Group.
  34. This was just another of the cowardly,
  35. bastards, sons-a-bitches methods of
  36. looking good on the score card while
  37. sending hundreds of fellow officers to
  38. their deaths.  See how well you can
  39. duplicate these cowards' actions.
