- ■ System Requirements
-
- PC, PC/XT, PC/AT or other IBM-compatible system with a 256K
- EGA/VGA card. A Microsoft-compatible mouse is required. You'll
- need at least DOS 3.0. If Masago doesn't like what it finds at
- startup, it will inform you what's missing and stop.
-
-
- ■ Overview
-
- MASAGO presents you with a multi-level puzzle to solve.
- The board holds twenty-five tiles, each of which can be flipped
- to show one of two colors. You start with the board all one
- color, and try to get it converted completely to the other color.
-
- You may use one of four different rules to determine how
- the tiles are flipped. Here are the rules:
-
- Rinzai's Rule : All tiles from the selected tile to the edge
- of the board (horizontally and vertically)
- are flipped, as is the selected tile itself.
-
-
- Moore's Rule : The eight "nearest neighbor" tiles to the
- tile selected are flipped, along with the
- selected tile.

-
- This rule is a little harder to use than
- Rinzai's Rule, although a sneaky four-move
- solution exists.
-
-
- Moore's Toroid: With this rule, you apply Moore's Rule in
- such a way that regions which would have been
- played off the board would wrap around to the
- other side(s). Experiment with it--it's
- easier to see than to explain.
-
- This rule is harder than easier than either
- of the prior two.
-
-
- VonNeumann's Rule : VonNeumann's Rule flips only the four
- nearest tiles to the selected tile.

-
- This is the hardest rule to use. Rumors
- of a solution exist, notably one
- discovered by John H. Conway, the
- gentleman who gave us "Conway's Game of
- Life."
-
-
- The following files are provided as a part of the Masago package:
-
- MASAGO.EXE - the game itself.
- FLIP.PCX - the background image file.
- MASAGO.HLP - the on-line help file. Don't modify
- this!!!
-
- ■ Registering the Game
-
- Masago is shareware. That means that if you intend to keep it
- beyond a trial period (10 calendar days) you're morally,
- legally, ethically, and conscientiously required to register it
- with me. That will cost you $5.00. That's right--just a
- measly five-spot.
-
- Registration will entitle you to a list of solutions (except
- possibly for the solution to VonNeumann's Rule, which I haven't
- been able to track down yet--I have friends searching for John
- Conway on the nets). You will receive a free copy of the
- Sound Blaster-compatible, full VGA edition of Masago, soon to
- be released, if your registration indicates you'd like it.
- Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.
-
- Send a check or money order for $5.00 to
-
- J. Brook Monroe
- 132 S. Colorado Ave.
- DeLand, FL 32724
-
- Make the check out to me personally, since Rinzai Satori
- Productions doesn't yet have a full, legal, existence, and
- won't until we figure out whether or not to be a Chapter S
- corporation, or that other kind. Right now I'm running a sole
- proprietorship, so the checks have to be made out to me.
-
- Don't send cash through the mail!

-
- ■ Why I'm Not Hiding Behind "Rinzai Satori" Anymore
-
- The third Rinzai Satori Production, Byte Bandit, has been
- collected into "Son of Stupid PC Tricks," to be published by
- Addison-Wesley sometime in '92. As a part of getting it
- included, I had to reveal myself as the guy playing the part of
- Rinzai Satori. Well, it couldn't last forever, right?
-
- The second Rinzai Satori Production, Satori, has been rewritten
- into a commercial version marketed by Expert Software as a part
- of "Expert Puzzles and Mazes." You can find it on the shelves
- of your local Babbage's, Electronics Boutique, and probably
- Egghead stores by now. Rinzai says check it out.
-
- The first Rinzai Satori Production, Xaptron, has achieved some
- modicum of success in freeware distribution in France. I'm not
- kidding.

- ■ More Stuff
-
- We've added more staff here at RSP. In addition to the
- position of Rinzai Satori, we've now got Lenny Zen, Jr., the
- Amazing Dr. Tao, and Zazu Zazen. The Zazu position is still
- open.
