- Southeast Louisiana Regional Scenery for Flight Simulator 4.0
- Version 1.00a - February 1992
-
- based on the New Orleans VFR Terminal Area Chart,
- 32nd Edition, December 13, 1990.
-
- by Stephen Wong, WWIVnet: 160@5409
- CompuServe: 70751,431
-
- What's New???
-
- - Redesigned NAS New Orleans
- - New airport: Le Maire Memorial at Jeanerette.
- - ATIS and COM messages on frequencies listed in the Airport Facility
- Directory
- - Runway and taxiway lights at New Orleans International (only)
- (If you don't see any difference, try it at night.)
- - Roadway network now completed
-
- This is the last version of scenery for Southeast Louisiana in this
- form - mainly because of the memory crunch. There's a lot of things
- that I want to add but can't, like: some seaplane bases along the
- Intracoastal Waterway, the Intracoastal Waterway itself, the
- Atchafalaya and Pearl Rivers, Bayou Lafourche, those lakes near
- the Patterson / Morgan City area, and runway lights for all airports.
- But that's all in the future when I figure out how to use multiple
- SC1 files and get that boundary thing worked out. And one thing that
- is definitely gonna get fixed is that Lake Ponchartrain. It irks me
- that way it keeps popping in and out.
-
- I express thanks to Dr. Creston "Absent-Minded Aviator" King for
- providing the Jepp charts which were very valuable.
-
- If you have any comments, criticisms, or suggestions, you are welcome
- to send it to me at:
-
- High Tech BBS - (504)837-7941 or CompuServe address 70751,431
- WWIVnet address 160@5409
-
- especially if you can tell me how that overlap thing works.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
- Hardware / Software Requirements
-
- The hardware and software requirements for this highly sophisticated
- and complicated piece of machinery are:
-
- - an IBM compatible computer (preferrably an 80286 or higher)
- - 640K RAM
- - a hard drive or high density (1.2M/1.44M) floppy drive
- - MS/PC-DOS 2.0 or greater
- - CGA/MCGA/EGA/VGA/Hercules graphics card
- - an appropriate monitor to go with the graphics card
- - Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0
- - Microsoft Aircraft and Scenery Designer 1.0
-
- And that's it. Optional equipment includes:
-
- - a 300 baud or faster modem
- - Microsoft compatible mouse
- - Joystick w/IBM compatible game card
- - Control Yoke with Rudder Pedals
- - Sound, Graphics, and Aircraft Upgrade for Flight Simulator 4.0
- - Adlib, SoundBlaster, SoundBlaster Pro, or other sound cards
- supported by the SGA Upgrade.
-
- Refer to instructions that came with your computer to figure out how
- to put all that stuff together.
-
- The scenery disk is not required because it doesn't exist. It was for
- that reason I embarked on this project in the first place. I just got
- tired of waiting and waiting and waiting... My Energizers ran out.
-

- Installation Procedures
-
- To install Flight Simulator, the Aircraft and Scenery Designer, and
- scenery for Southeast Louisiana, a minimum of 1.2M of disk space is
- required on your hard drive.
-
- 1. Install Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0.
- Refer to pages ix-x in the Microsoft Flight Simulator Information
- Manual and Flight Handbook for details.
- 2. Install Microsoft Aircraft and Scenery Designer
- Refer to page 6 in the Microsoft Flight Simulator Aircraft and
- Scenery Designer User's Guide for details.
- 3. Delete all previous versions of this scenery file (also known as:
- 30090.SC1 v0.10 and MSYTCA.SC1 v0.50/0.60)
- 4. Unzip the archive LASMSYSW.ZIP to your Flight Simulator directory.
- 5. Run Flight Simulator and set the Static and Dynamic Scenery Memory
- Allocation. Static: 59000, Dynamic: 5000, and save it.
- 6. Exit and restart Flight Simulator and go to the Mode Library to
- select one of the mode files in this scenery file.
-
- You should now be either sitting on the ground (most likely at a
- runway threshold) or flying somewhere in Southeast Louisiana (if you
- selected the correct mode.)

-
- It's not essential to have all of these references, though having the
- Terminal Chart would be helpful in getting all your directions and
- landmarks straight. (No - pilots do not use nautical charts as one of
- my sailing buddies found out.)
-
- The New Orleans VFR Terminal Chart as well as the Sectional Charts
- and Directories can be obtained from the Fixed Base Operator at your
- local airport. The Enroute Charts and Instrument Approach Procedures,
- however, are available only through subscription, so if you want
- those you'll have to bug a pilot for theirs.
-
- As a last resort, the file MAP.TXT can be printed out to give a rough
- location of where everything is in relation to each other (airports
- and navaids) if you can't obtain the VFR Terminal Chart.
