- FOR USE WITH DEFAULT FS4 SCENERY
-
- This scenery for ASD is High Density and is probably only usable on a
- 386 platform. It is a companion file to the LOWKEY.ZIP scenery package. Lots
- of file swapping going on; lots of framing going on.
- This scenery was designed with purposes in mind other than arrival and
- departure. It is digitized and scaled from USCGS charts, and aerial photos.
- X:Y coordinates are taken from MapInfo boundary files for the United States.
- Scanned input was converted to DXF format and imported to AutoSketch where it
- was overlaid with a half-mile grid and output to plotter file format. This
- gridded printout was used to model the scenery in ASD with its grid locked and
- set at half-mile sides.
-
- CAYSAL.ZIP contains the following files:
-
- CAYSAL.MOD...........Take off from Cay Sal strip
- CAYSAL.SC1...........Cay Sal Bank
- CAYSAL.MAP...........ASCII Map details for your printer
- CAYSAL.EXE...........Executable SVGA GIF
- CAYSAL.DOC...........This file
-
-
- I recommend that you print CAYSAL.MAP before you read the rest of this.
- If you are using the Cuba scenery by John A. Kelley, set the boundary for
- CUBAWEST.SC1 down to 75 miles.
- These files are SEE03 affected, thanks to Laemming Wheeler.

- POINTS OF INTEREST
-
-
- Cay Sal Bank is an atoll of sorts built on crusty coral and limestone.
- The ring of desolate islands surround a shallow about 60 miles across.
- Nothing of modern industrial worth is found here excepting solitude and the
- privacy necessary for carefree drug smuggleing operations. The only island
- with any vegitation of comfort is Cay Sal itself which has coconut trees and
- mangroves. This island is also where the only people in the area can be found
- and sometimes they are not there for extended periods. There is usually a
- single resident and one of his relatives, both of whom are on the Bahamaian
- Government payroll as Customs Officials. The few times that I have been
- there, we had to surrender all of the ice cream we had on the boat, a quart of
- liquor, and the $12.00 U.S. exit tax. I have wondered since if more liquor
- could have been substituted for the exit tax.
- Cay Sal is rumored to have been owned by none other than Howard
- Hughs... but, I suppose he has been credited with owning everything at one
- time or another. Today, you are not welcome on Cay Sal, and the airstrip
- attests to the inhospitality; it is about 2000 feet long by 60 feet wide, and
- only a desperate person would use it. Dodge the potholes and trees along the
- way.
- As you leave Cay Sal northbound (CAYSAL.MOD) at 345 degrees, swing full
- north. The islands you are approaching are the Water Cays. One of these,
- Elbow Cay, has the remains of a lighthouse and several buildings. There is
- also a haul-up ramp carved into the coral. One hundred yards to the north of
- the lighthouse are the ruins of an old paddle-wheeler which burned to the
- waterline before sinking (I am only making conversation here...you can't see
- the wreck in the scenery). Story goes that several of the survivors murdered
- one another at the lighthouse before the tragedy was discovered by passers-by.
- The Water Cays are interesting enough from the perspective of a diver,
- with many tunnels cut beneath the watermark. Marine life is abundant, and
- there are several boats visiting the area occasionally from Key Largo and
- Islamorada. In recent years, pirates and smugglers have made the visit less
- than refreshing for a number of lone boaters.
- If you are using the scenery files from LOWKEY.ZIP, take a course of
- 134 degrees as you leave Key West International and follow it for about one
- hundred miles. That will put you in gliding distance of the Cay Sal airstrip
-
-
- FS4, ASD AND SEE03 ARE NOT MY TRADEMARKS, BUT I SURE DO LOVE WHAT THEY STAND
- FOR. THANKS TO MICROSOFT, BAO AND LAEMMING WHEELER. ALSO THANKS GO TO JIM
- ROSS FOR HIS "LEVITILT". GREAT STUFF! AutoSketch IS OWNED BY AUTODESK.

- NOTE:
- BY COPYRIGHT, I MEAN THAT I GET A ROYALTY FOR ANY SALE OF MY SCENERY.

- REBUILD IT, OR BLOW IT UP... MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO ME. THE FILES CONTAINED
- IN THIS ARCHIVE, AND HERETOFORE LISTED, ARE PLACED IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN FOR
