- BARCELONA STATIC SCENERY
- (for use with Microsoft Flight Simulator v.4)
-
- The scenery file that comes with this text file has been entirely created
- using Microsoft Aircraft & Scenery Designer, with no further processing or
- enhancement, so it can be freely edited by means of that program.
-
- Requirements:
- - Microsoft Flight Simulator (v.4).
- - Microsoft Aircraft & Scenery Designer.
- Strongly recommended:
- - Sublogic "Western European Tour" Scenery Disk (SD-EUR).
-
- The scenery is built up on the location of Barcelona according to Sublogic
- European scenery disk, so if it is loaded from the MS FS4 default scenery or
- any other, the city will appear in the middle of a continent or sea, rather
- than the Mediterranean shore, where it should be. Its relative location in
- respect of other features on the Sublogic scenery is fairly exact. A flight
- from Barcelona to Paris in a 747 Boeing takes 1 hour and 15 minutes, and it
- takes about 2 hours from Barcelona to London, both fairly realistic.
-
- The scenery file covers an area with a radius of 40/70 Km. (25/43 miles)
- centered on the city of Barcelona, and reaching the towns of Mataró to the
- North, Vilanova i la Geltrú to the South and Manresa to inland. It contains two
- airports: El Prat International and Sabadell Flying Club. The A&SD static
- scenery configuration should be set to hold no less than 41038 bytes.
-
- The included cities or towns appear in yellow in accordance with the rest
- of the European scenery, and no radios or nav-aids have been included (hope to
- get further info to include them). Should be taken into account that the
- included mountains (Collcerola, Montserrat, Garraf and Sant Llorenç del Munt
- massives) are about three times their actual height in order to look much more
- according to their ground-level appearance: it is amazing how ridiculous they
- looked from the air with their actual height. All other scenery features have
- been rendered as exactly as possible as for their height, size and location.
-
- Since A&SD does not allow to place buildings or objects on top of the
- mountains, I am the first to regret the absence of so much significant sights
- as Collcerola Communications Tower, Tibidabo Temple, Montjuic's Castle or the
- Olympic Stadium.
-
- Besides the scenery itself (BARNA.SC1) and this file (BARNA.DOC) I have
- produced three modes: ready to takeoff at El Prat International (BARNA.MOD) and
- Sabadell Flying Club (SABADELL.MOD), and also flying low and slowly over
- Catalunya Square (CATALUNY.MOD), easily the most typical sight of the city and
- one of the most elaborately designed areas. I have also recorded a 20 minutes-
- demo intended to fly a Cessna from Sabadell Flying Club, perform a panoramic
- tour over the most significant places in Barcelona, and finally land at El Prat
- International. There are 3 versions of the demo (BARNACAT.DEM, BARNACAS.DEM and
- BARNAENG.DEM) with only one difference, i.e. the language of the comments:
- Catalan (our very own *and very alive* regional Romance language), Castilian
- (the way we Catalonians call usual Spanish language) and English.
-
- Finally I would like to state that this is only the first attempt to
- create a known and pleasant environment, strictly for visual flying, on the
- part of a non-technical user who is really fond of flight simulators, so I
- would ask for a little of indulgence for the imperfections (or those details
- which I have been forced to solve with imagination because of the lack of a
- more precise info). I really would appreciate any comment about this or other
- scenery files, or any other question related to flight simulators.
