The Hozuki-ichi, or ground-cherry
fair, is held at the Sensoji Temple
in Asakusa Tokyo for two days. The
precinct and the main approaches to
the temple are filled with shops and
stalls selling ground-cherries.
Every year, more than 300 shops are
set up, selling a potted ground-
cherry.
After purchase, the customer care-
fuly extracts the contents of the
fruit to make a shell leaving only a
small holl at the top. Young girls
usually chew this small balloon-
shaped shell to make a squeaking
noise.
It is believed that those who
worship at the temple during those
two days will have 46,000 days of
good fortune.
Aikido is becoming popular not only
in Japan but in many countries around
the world because it helps to improve
the flexibility of the joints to
promote smooth physical movement and
can be used to overpower an opponent
without risk of injurng him.
The chief difference between Aikido
and Judo is that in Aikido the two
contestants remain apart from each
other,never giving one another a
cahnce to get a hold, while Judo is
based on the two contestants holding
each other's collar and sleevs. Most
Aikido techniques are based on gras-
ping the opponent's hands and
applying pressure or twisting untill
he submits.
