  1. Instructions for installing this cdrom into a wildcat BBS.

  3. - This will only work with version 4.x.  Please.  It MIGHT work for
  4. later versions, but i don't know that.
  5.  
  6. - You must NOT be shelled to dos.  Exit wildcat via alt-x, not f-10.
  7.  
  8. - BACK UP your \wc40\makewild.dat, \wc40\filearea.dat, and
  9. \wc40\data\allfiles.* if you mess up, you can copy over the new
  10. mangled filearea.dat with the backup version.
  11.  
  12. - Change directories to your default wildcat directory.
  13.  
  14. - Type:
  15.  
  16.     COPY <your cdrom drive letter>\_bbs\wildcat\install.bat .
  17.  
  18. - This copies the install.bat to your default directory.  You have to edit
  19. the batch file to tell it which cdrom drive letter you have.  That's
  20. the first line -- you shouldn't need to edit anything else.
  21.  
  22. Run the batch file by typing:
  23.     install
  24.  
  25. This program figures out how many areas you should need for this
  26. cdrom and then calls makewild.  You have to type the new number of
  27. areas into makewild.  Then makewild will expand your database files
  28. for the new number of areas.  Then this program will install all the
  29. file areas and paths in makewild's file area configuration.  It reads
  30. the file \_bbs\dirs.txt on the cdrom for area descriptions and paths.
  31. It then creates a batch file that you run.  This batch file uses
  32. wildcat's 'wcfile' and installs the filenames and descriptions into
  33. wildcat's global file database.
  34.  
  35. The install program asks several questions.  The first is the drive
  36. letter of your cdrom drive.  This is probably e: but might be any
  37. other letter.  
  38.  
  39. The install program also asks where you want this CDROM's directories
  40. installed in your directory list.  The recommended place is several
  41. directories after the last directory you have specified in makewild.
  42. (You want to leave room for expansion.)  
  43.  
  44. For example, if you have 100 directories specified with makewild, the
  45. program will suggest you install the new directories starting with
  46. area 101.  It will not allow you to overwrite directories you already
  47. have installed unless you give install the -f option.

  49. The -f option to the install program:
  50.  
  51.     install1 -f  (note, this is 'install' 1)
  52.  
  53. or the batch file:
  54.  
  55.     install -f
  56.  
  57. will allow you to overwrite existing file catagories that already
  58. exist in your filearea.dat database.  If you are installing this disc
  59. over top of an existing disc of the same title, you might want to
  60. force the new descriptions over top of the existing ones.  For this
  61. reason, I STRONGLY recommend you consider leaving some blank
  62. descriptions after a CDROM in case future versions have more
  63. directories than the current version.

  65. To uninstall the CDROM, WCPRO allows you to remove areas and the
  66. files in them -- you might have to buy this add-on from Mustang
  67. software...

  73. see these new file areas.

  77. If you want to just have one super subdirectory with all the files,
  78. you can use the 'files.bbs' file that's in the \_bbs\wc30 directory.
  79. (note, wc30, not wc40.)  The file with all the file descriptions in
  80. it is called allfiles.dir.  There's also a file in each subdirectory
  81. called 'wildcat.txt' that has the file descriptions in wildcat format.
