I am a teacher of English at Tours University in Blois (France). As part of
the syllabus of the seniors preparing the Master's Degree in Computer Science
and Telecommunication, I assign the frenchifying of shareware programs: it
provides them with an opportunity to use their letter-writing skills (they
have to get in touch with the authors to convince them of the interest of
the scheme, obtain permission to do the translating and get the appropriate
files -- *.exe, *.rtf, *.hpj, *.txt, *.wri, *.doc, etc.), as well as their
translating skills and their abilities of carrying out a whole project in
workgroups. Naturally, I review their work before sending out the frenchified
software, which is provided free of charge -- the job being a reward in itself.
The project started in 91-92: we frenchified Caselinr 3.4, Folders 3.4,
HexEdit 1.41 and NoteBook 1.A. As for 92-93, the students have just completed
the translation of DiskMan 2.1, MegaEdit 1.14, SloopMan 2.0 and SuperTaskMan
3.1. As for next year, we might do CEO, Archives, PixFolio, UltraClip,...
