This file contains information on the following topics:

1) Minimum system requirements:
IBM-compatible PC with 386 DX/ 33MHz or higher microprocessor;
SVGA graphics (256 colours with 640 X 480 resolution);
MPC-compatible sound card;
Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later;
MS-DOS 3.1 or later;
4MB of RAM (8MB recommended);
a double-speed CD-ROM drive;
a mouse or compatible pointing device;
headphones or speakers.
2) Installing the Violent Earth program
Place the Violent Earth disc in the CD-ROM drive - in a caddy if necessary.
Select the File menu from the Program Manager menu.
Select Run.
When the command line appears, type d:\install.exe (where d is the letter of your CD ROM drive).
Then click OK or press Enter on the keyboard.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
The Violent Earth set-up procedure will create a Wayland Multimedia program group within the Program Manager.
A Violent Earth program icon will appear on the screen.
To launch the program, double-click on the Violent Earth icon.
3) Troubleshooting
The basics - please check that:
your computer, monitor and CD-ROM drive are switched on and working normally;
your computer, monitor and CD-ROM drive meet the system requirements as set out above;
your monitor is set to 640 X 480 display resolution, with 256 colours;
the disc you are using is the correct version: ie an MPC version (there is also a Macintosh version of Violent Earth). The version type is printed on the face of the disc.
the disc is placed in the CD-ROM drive printed side up.
Memory - a common cause of problems
Do you have any other applications running? You must quit all other running
applications for optimal performance.
Problems with the picture
Is your screen set to 640 x 480 with 256 colours?
Problems with the sound
You should have speakers or headphones connected to the back of your PC rather than an external CD-ROM drive.
Problems with playing videos
Did you install QuickTime using install.exe?
If you have problems with QuickTime video breaking up on the screen edit the C/Windows/QTW.ini file and add the following:
under the line which reads:
[VIDEO]
type the line:
OPTIMIZE=DRIVER
and save the file.
Problems with printing
Do you have a printer connected to your PC?
Have you got it selected?
Is the printer set to 'on-line'?
Have you run out of ribbon or toner?
Problems on screen saver cutting in
Remove or switch off your screen saver while using this disc.
