When running Guitar Hits, it is highly recommended to deactivate any
screen saver, as any other Windows applications.
=================
GRAPHICS PROBLEMS
=================
********** Video card specific problem **********
Users of Windows 3.1, 3.11 or Windows 95
If you are having trouble with the quality of the graphics or the
video in the music or lessons section of the program, try the
following procedures sequentially until the graphics and video are
clear and sharp.
1) If you are using a graphics card that offers video acceleration,
disable it. You can do it by entering the control panel of your
graphics card driver.
2) Make sure you are using the most current screen driver for your
system. Contact your authorised dealer to get the latest version.
You can also check the card card manufacturers' BBS or the Internet.
Ubi Soft recommends using drivers that were released in 1995 or later.
3) Change your screen resolution to 16 bit color or 64K color.
(Warning: this can improve the video quality, but may cause
errors if you only have 4MB RAM).
Consult your video card manual for instructions.
4) Make sure you have an SVGA display running in 640X480 mode
with 256 colors. Consult your Windows manual for instructions.
********** Video For Windows specific problem **********
How to detect you have a video specific problem :
Enter the video directory of your CD-ROM and double-click on any of
the video files. If Video For Windows is installed correctly you
should see your video played. Check the quality of the video.
If any problem appears, you can try this :
1) Check you have a double speed CD-ROM drive and the driver is
installed correctly. To check this, try for example to copy some
files from your CD-ROM to a temporary directory on your hard disk.
2) Windows 3.1 users : reinstall Video For Windows.
3) Windows 95 users : as Video for Windows is installed as a part
of Windows 95, the problem may deal with your Windows 95
installation. Contact your retailer to know where the problem
comes from.
4) If your video is halting when you start it, there might be a
conflict with your sound card. Try to change the DMA channel of
your sound card. Refer to your sound card manual for further
instructions on how to do this.
********** Users of Diamond Stealth Video Cards **********
Disable video acceleration and use the version 2.07 or later of the
video driver. Using the wrong version will cause errors when using
the full-screen video feature in the Music section. This problem is
caused by the driver not reallocating the memory it used when playing
the full-screen video.
********** Users of Diamond Viper Pro Video Card **********
Some problems might appear with the Viper Pro Video Card. Ubi Soft
recommends using the latest version of your video driver. With older
versions, Guitar Hits does not work in 64K color or higher with the
Diamond Viper Pro Video card. -- Note : Viper Pro Video card does
not support SVGA mode under Windows 3.1 with the Microsoft SVGA
driver.
==============
SOUND PROBLEMS
==============
Check that the volume knob in Guitar Hits is not set to 0.
Verify that your sound card is 100% Sound Blaster or Sound Blaster
Pro compatible.
Check to make sure that your sound card is installed properly by
running one of the utilities supplied with the sound card. You can
also check the sound by using the Sound utility in the Control Panel.
Simply select one of the WAV files and click on Test.
If you are using Guitar Hits and the volume knob numbers are hidden
or if you cannot adjust the volume knob, then your sound card does
not have this capability. To change the volume, you will need to use
the program provided with your sound card or change the volume
manually with your speakers.
===============
TUNING PROBLEMS
===============
You can use the automatic tuner in two ways:
- Plug your guitar directly to the input of your sound card.
- Use a microphone and put your guitar next to it.
Ubi Soft recommends you to try first the input of your sound card.
Record your guitar sound and play it back. You can then hear if your
input level is satisfactory.
If you have properly set up your sound input, you should hear the
guitar through your speakers while in the Tuning screen (donÆt forget
to click on the plug).
If you have a slow processor or a processor without its math copro,
you will wait a long time before the tuning displays its result.
Indeed, software tuning involves high computation.
==============
OTHER PROBLEMS
==============
If you run Guitar Hits with 4MB of RAM in Windows 3.1 or 3.11, make
sure to set virtual memory from 4MB to 8MB. You will be able to
adjust the Virtual Memory in the Control Panel. If you are using
Windows 95, let the system automatically allocate the virtual memory
(which is the default configuration).
If you frequently experience any Windows 3.1 errors, try to activate
the virtual memory, even if you have 8 MB or more. For example with
8MB of RAM you can add 4 MB of virtual memory.
If you have Windows 3.1, donÆt add too much virtual memory
(maximum 8 MB) or your video will not be played smoothly.
If you only have 4MB of memory, you may experience some errors
running Guitar Hits with a 16 bit color depth (or 64K colors)
screen resolution set.
Ubi Soft strongly recommends using at least 8 MB of RAM, a video card
that supports SVGA mode (640x480 with 256 colors) under Windows 3.1
or 3.11 and a Sound Blaster or Sound Blaster Pro 100% compatible
sound card.
