  2. DavysBigKeyCaps font.
  3.  
  4. DavysKeyCaps is a font of characters meant to reproduce the "look"
  5. of keys on the IBM and Macintosh extended keyboards. It is intended
  6. primarily to aid in software documentation. The "big" version sacrifices
  7. geometric integrity for legibility at small sizes. In addition, all
  8. characters are drawn in all caps, rather than in an arbitrary mix.

  10. To show any alphabetic key, press the uppercase letter of your choice.
  11. All the numeric and other shift keys (Such as $, shift-4) will also
  12. display the requisite keys.

  14. LOWERCASE ALPHABETIC KEYS

  16. The lowercase alphabetic characters in the font produce the following
  17. key images:

  20. b - RETURN
  21. c - CAPS LOCK (2 lines)
  22. d - PRINT SCREEN (2 lines)
  23. e - ENTER
  24. f - INS
  25. g - SCROLL LOCK (2 lines)

  28. j - cursor left
  29. k - cursor down
  30. l - cursor right
  31. m - DELETE
  32. n - BACKSPACE
  33. o       - OPTION
  34. p - PAUSE
  35. q - SHIFT

  40. v - CONTROL (the whole word -- "CTRL" is on another key)

  42. x - the Macintosh "command" key or four-leaf clover

  89. DavysBigKeyCaps is distributed free of charge for personal use. You
  90. may keep your copy of DavysBigKeyCaps as long as you want, and you
  91. may distribute it freely, providing all the files in this archive
  92. are included. If you use DavysBigKeyCaps in the documentation for
  93. a commercial product, i.e., for a product for which money is charged,
  94. there are two stipulations: you should acknowledge the font in the
  95. publication, and you should make a donation of only $10 to Columbia
  96. University (make out a check to Columbia University and send to Cynthia
  97. Lemiesz, 703 Dodge Hall, Columbia University, New York, NY 10027
  98. -- write "KeyCaps" on the check memo). The money goes to pay for
  99. performances of music written by Columbia University students. User
  100. groups and shareware/public domain software outlets may distribute
  101. this font without my expressed permission, providing all the files
  102. associated with the font are included.

  104. DavysBigKeyCaps is a response to many letters complaining about the
  105. legibility of its predecessor. One scarecely realizes how seriously
  106. people take their key caps. Myself, I take mine with sugar and just
  107. a little milk, preferably preheated. DavysBigKeyCaps was produced
  108. on a Macintosh SE at Insect Bytes, a place with a wood stove, three
  109. cats, and carpeted stairs. Plus, there's a little swamp (they call
  110. them "wetlands" now) across the road where the insects live.
