  6. Caraway Bold is a new TrueType font that is distinctive, scalable,
  7. and a pleasure to read.  It is a sans-serif calligraphic face, the
  8. sort of thing a calligrapher might do for an informal, print writing.
  9. It is best set at 18pt or above, useful for headlines, greeting cards,
  10. and other places a display face would be appropriate.  It is completely
  11. original work, desgined and rendered in PostScript, and then converted
  12. to TrueType, by Peter Jensen.

  14. This is the first TrueType release of Caraway Bold.  It is given
  15. the version number 2.0 to reflect the extensive changes made in its
  16. Type 1 parent.  For example, the metrics, which featured the very
  17. tight character spacing and kerning that are currently in style for
  18. large headline displays, have now been relaxed, which I feel will
  19. be more useful, and provide a better balance of black and white on
  20. the page.  There are a large number of kerning pairs, ensuring even
  21. spacing between all character combinations.  Many characters have
  22. been "tweaked", and there are no longer any overlapping paths or
  23. other anomalies to prevent proper printing on non-PostScript printers.

  25. Caraway Bold is being released as SHAREWARE.  This allows users to
  26. try the font out to see whether it is worth paying for.  Marketing
  27. and distribution costs are eliminated, and the users interact directly
  28. with the Author (me!), allowing for extremely low prices for what
  29. can be commercial quality work.  If you beleive, like I and many
  30. others, that Caraway Bold is of commercial quality, and will make
  31. a great addition to your font collection, please send in your shareware
  32. fee.  You will only pay once for Caraway Bold: all future upgrades
  33. will be free of charge.  And, you'll be supporting the shareware
  34. system, which allows budding typographers like myself to market their
  35. wares and receive helpful feedback directly from thousands of users
  36. worldwide.

  39. or money order payable in US funds and send it to the address below.
  40. Those using the font for commercial purposes are requested to purchase
  41. the full character set, described below.  Those of you who have sent
  42. in their shareware fees for earlier versions are of course exempted
  43. from any upgrade charge.  :)

  45. Caraway Bold was intended to be joined by a companion font, Caraway
  46. Book.  This font was to be light enough to be used as a text face,
  47. something that works well at 10 and 12 point.  The response from
  48. users (i.e. shareware payments) for Caraway Bold has not yet been
  49. great enough to justify the hundreds of hours work that will go into
  50. Caraway Book's produtcion.  I hope that the numerous fixes and improvments
  51. in Caraway Bold 2.0 will merit a favorable response from users, and
  52. thus lead to the creation of Caraway Book.  If there are any remaining
  53. problems with Caraway Bold, please write me and I will try to fix
  54. them immediately.

  63. All of the numerous fixes in the current release have been incorporated
  64. into the full version.  You receive a disk containing all the foreign,
  65. diacritical, mathematical, and special characters in Type 1 and TrueType
  66. formats, EPS art for customizing the letterforms, a wide vareity
  67. of bitmap sizes, and some special bonuses!  The price of $25 covers
  68. your licensing and registration ad infinitum.  And, should you have
  69. any problems, a replacement disk will be in the mail to you promptly.
