II. Workshop "Developing Countries"

The Themes of the Workshop will emphasize on teletraffic subjects that are of practical nature and relate to subjects of particular interest to developing countries.


Sessions

  1. Data acquisition Tuesday 24 June 1997 (1400 - 1530)
    Methods of obtaining, statistical or measured, data required for preparation of forecasts, network optimizations, maintenance and operational controles, QOS, etc.
  2. Forecasting Tuesday 24 June 1997 (1600 - 1730)
    Methods of forecasting will be presented including use of computerized models for this purpose. The experiences from the ITU-T (CCITT) GAS 10 Handbook will be of interest. Other methods developed are expected to be presented
  3. Network planning & optimization Thursday 26 June 1997 (1400-1530)
    Network planning tools have been developed by many and the porpose of this session is to present such tools to the participants. ITU has developed the important tool PLANITU, which is being used by many developing countries in the world. Other countries/Administrations have also developed such tools and the session aims at having such tools briefly introduced. Eventual additional time for demonstrations may be avilable for speakers wishing to make such demonstrations (To be requested in good time !)
  4. 4 New Services and cost-effective ways of providing teleservices (in particular in rural and isolated areas) Thursday 26 June 1997 (1600-1730)
    The many new services that have rapidly become available to urban and fast developing areas are also demanded in rural areas. ITU-D is devoting much attention to this in their Study Groups 1 & 2. The introduction of community teleservice centres, or similar services, in developing countries are now beeing tested in many of the developing countries. This session will aim at bringing the latest experiences from field operation/plans on this to the participants of this Workshop.
