Audio File Icon George Audio File Icon Raymond E. Lenhard, Jr., M.D., President, American Cancer Society, is a Professor of Oncology and Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Lenhard is Director of Community Programs and Director of Clinical Information Systems at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Dr. Lenhard received his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1959. After an internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York and residency at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Lenhard did his military service in the US Public Health Service. He returned to Johns Hopkins for a fellowship in Internal Medicine and then joined the faculty. Dr. Lenhard is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Lenhard has been extensively involved as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society. he is a past president and current member of the Maryland Division Board of Directors and Executive Committees. At the Society's national level, he has been a member of a number of committees including Research and Clinical Investigation, Medical Affairs, Public Issues/Public Policy, Patient Services, Finance, and the Cancer Pain Relief Advisory Group. He has served as chairman of the national committees Information Systems, Professors of Clinical Oncology, Professional Education, Detection and Treatment, and Medical Affairs. The Society awarded Dr. Lenhard the National Division Award (St. George Medal) in 1991.
