Downloading from TUCOWS
Downloading from TUCOWS is as easy as 1-2-3. When you find the application you would like to download to your computer, simply click on the name of the application. For example, if you want to download the Netscape Communicator, you would first go to the WWW Browsers section and scroll down until you come to Netscape:

Netscape Communicator

  • Version Number: 4.04
  • Revision Date: November 11, 1998
  • File Name: tucows_cb32e404.exe
  • Byte Size: 9,970,236
  • License: Free evaluation, academic, or non-profit use.
  • Homepage: http://www.netscape.com
  • Description: The best WWW browser available on the Net has now gotten better. This new version has loads of new features. A full 13MB version is available from Netscape
Click on the name of the applicaion "Netscape Communicator" the download will begin AUTOMATICALLY a moment after click. Then you will see the following:

This is a normal message, so do not worry. This means that Netscape (or any other browser) does not know how to display this file on screen and it is asking you what to do next. Click on "Save File." Another box will come up asking where you want to place the file on your computer. I recommend you make a directory called temp and download everything into that directory. After the download has completed, open your File Manager or Explorer and unzip/execute the application. That's it! You just successfully downloaded from TUCOWS.com

When I go to unzip or Install a downloaded file I get errors.
Redownload it and reinstall. Sometimes files get corrupt during downloading and don't work correctly. Be sure you are dowloading the right version; Win 95, Win 3x, Mac, etc. Rebooting your machine before installing works quite often.
I get kicked out of an application with a General Protection Fault.
GPF's are memory problems in your machine. You need to run Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter, both of which can be found under Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools. If you still have the problem, un-install the application using Add/Remove Programs located in your Control Panels window, then re-install.
How do I find lost files on my PC?
Try using the Find Files or Folders option on your Start Menu, then Files. Also try opening Windows Explorer, you can then browse any folder(directory) on your PC, and it has it's own Find feature under Tools on the menu bar. NOTE: If you still can't find your file, it may have been inadvertently saved or moved to your Fonts folder. Explorer will only see font files in that folder; even Find won't be able to find it. Try using DOS or the old Windows 3.1 File Manager (winfile.exe) to locate and move the file.
How can I find drivers? DLL files? Anything that I don't have but need desperately?
In most cases, you can find drivers for your hardware by looking at the homepage of the maker of that hardware. Say you have an Epson printer, look up drivers at http://www.epson.com. Not all of them are that obvious, but it's a good place to start. Just go your location bar and type http://www.companyname.com and see what happens. If that doesn't work, try a search engine, such as Alta Vista and type the full name of the device or program for which you need support. Enclose your query in quotes, such as "miroVideo DC30 capture card" (capitalization is not important). Also, if you already know the name of the file you need, here is a handy search engine that should take you straight to it. NOTE: You must know the exact file name. http://ftpsearch.ntnu.no/
