IRC is where people login to IRC Servers on the internet to do text type chatting. People can also trade files, pictures and get information about you if you let them. Most IRC servers are log'd so becareful at what you say and do. The best thing to do if you get an IRC Client is to input bogus information. Most of the trading channels offer files (games, applications) in which you can download for free. Some of the bots might have a speed limit so if your on a 28.8 ppp account chances are you will not be able to get any of the bigger applications or games.

I would suggest getting MIRC as an IRC Client only because its common everywhere.
