Settings - Paths

This dialog displays some paths used by Probe, and also allows for modifying some of these.

Click the controls of the dialog in fig 1 to jump to their associated help text.

Program Path

This is the path where Probe was started from.

External Compression Applications Path

This is the path where archive packers and other helper apps used by Probe are stored.

Probe Work Directory

This is the directory where Probe caches files in remote and compressed storage. Also items such as collectors for search results, empty files for icon extraction and more is kept in a subfolder of the Probe Work Directory.

The button Browser for workdir can be used for modifying the location of the Probe Work Directory.

NOTE: When handling compressed or remote files (FTP) frequently it is recommended to have the work directory in a drive with plentiful free space.

NOTE: It is not recommended to have the Probe Work Directory in a networked drive. This will cache files on another computer than the local one.

Text Editor

This is the path to the text editor to be invoked through the keyboard accelerator F4, or the Edit as Text item on file popup menus.
