A Tour of the Components
The main window of Probe is divided into smaller, resizable,
draggable frames. Each such frame has a Probe component in it. In this section, an
introduction to each component is provided.
The layout of the main window of Probe is not fixed. The
frames can be opened, resized, dragged, closed etc. This means that a personal layout is
easily created. Also, on a multiuser system, each user can have a personal layout.
When using a file manager such as MS Explorer, the layout is
fixed to a single tree control, and one folder browser. The result is that only very basic
file operations can be performed. With Probe, you select or create a layout suiting your
needs. For example, when using two Folder Browsers and one Tree Browser, selecting files
and over viewing the source and destination of a file operation is a lot easier.
- The Folder
Browser is the frame which displays individual files and folders, and their details.
- The Tree
Browser enables viewing and managing branches of the unified storage tree, rooted at
the desktop, in a familiar explorer like fashion.
- You're probably using some of the folders within your system a
lot more than others. The Location Bar
is a tool taking advantage of this to accelerate navigation.
- Local/Remote drives are the basis for storage. The Disk Monitor tool gives a compact and
detailed overview of status of the drives.
- To facilitate automated file transfers, and to provide full
detail feedback on local/remote file operations, the Log Window has been designed.
- The Function
Bar presents an overview of how the F1 .. F10 keys
are used in Probe.
- The Probe Command
Prompt is a simple way to utilize the DOS/CMD environment, without desktop cluttering.
- Through the Accelerator Guide you can browse
all available keyboard accelerators in a structured, context sensitive way.
