7. The birth of the Information Age (mid-1900's)

The use of a primitive computer developed by English mathematician Alan Turing to assist in cracking Axis war codes during World War II (1939-1945) initiated the birth of the Information Age. The impact of computer technology and the new age of Internet communication on the traditional forms of written and visual expression are as yet barely imagined in the worlds of hypertext and computer art. But the 2000's will no doubt have untold surprises in store for the conveyance of language and images in the arts.
