Cathablanca

Episode #28: "News From C*E*A Headquarters"

The next morning, Jerome was told by Cathie to meet Francesca at a friend's tourist attraction outside of town. Jerome had never heard of it before, but got in the car that was sent for him. He realized he'd been had when, after the car sped away after he got out, he found himself standing alone in front of a strange little shack with a sign on the front that read 'Gravity Hill'. It was evening before Jerome got back to the city on foot. He found a letter from Erich slipped under his apartment door saying, in effect, 'stay away from my wife'.
Jerome was never to see Francesca again. It was really all for the best because, unknown to Cathie, Francesca, and everyone else, Jerome did have another love. But that's another story...
Meanwhile, back at the hotel...
"And that, Francesca, is the real Jerome," said Cathie. She had just shown Francesca videotape of Jerome having breakfast with a beautiful young blonde (not mentioning it was his sister) and the fake transcript made from the audiotape of their conversation obtained by Earl.
"Plus," added Cathie, "Jerome has failed to call for the last two days."
After Cathie put away her Jerome-slandering materials, Erich entered the room dressed and ready to take Francesca shopping. He pretended not to know anything about the Jerome affair.
But just as they were leaving, Sneena ran into the room. From the look on her face, she seemed to have some dreadful news.
"Guys, the C*E*A building has been broken into! I just got off the phone with Taylor back in L.A. Go read your e-mail!"
The C*E*A building had indeed been broken into. Francesca and her entourage made plans to leave for L.A. that very afternoon. Nobody wanted to stay behind; everyone wanted to get back to see what had happened.
With everyone anxious to see what had taken place at the C*E*A building in their absence, it seemed like the flight back took forever. Finally, they arrived and Fran, Cathie, Antonio and Erich took the jet helicopter to the headquarters directly from the airport.
The place was a mess. The executive offices had been ransacked and turned upside down. Though the police were called as soon as the break-in had been discovered 16 hours earlier, Francesca called the police when she arrived, and a detective came to the building to fill her in on the break-in and investigation.
Nobody was in the building when the break-in occurred, and the detectives had no leads.
