Issue #2 ~ August 1, 1997
AAAaaawwoooo! I bid you .... welcome to Issue #2 of Count Floyd's Movie News.
The old Count doesn't get out of the dungeon much, but I saw Men In Black
last week. Now I'm a big SCI/FI/Horror/Action fan, but I've been disappointed
in the so-called summer blockbuster movies for the last 5 years or so. I come
out of the theater either feeling drained or not feeling anything at all. It
is rare that I come out of the theater feeling jazzed over a movie; the kind
of film you can tell all your friends to go out and see. Is it just me? Well
... the trailer for Spawn looks very very exciting and new. See if it's
a "Spawn" or a yawn in issue #3. And now the lights dim as we go into the future
of movie news.
- Austin Powers will be going from the big screen to the
small screen. Mike Myers will reprise his role as the 1960's British spy in
three half-hour specials on MTV. The show will have a dance party format with
musical guests. It should be "groovy baby!".
- X-Files - Leia, who is a regular visiter to the C*E*A
chatroom, wrote in to ask about the upcoming "X-Files" movie. The film will
be directed by Rob Bowman and has a release date of Nov. of '97. Besides David
Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, Martin Landau will be making an appearance
as a mysterious new character. Joining the film will be series regulars Mitch
Pileggi and Dean Haglund. If I find out more I'll pass it along. Thanks, Leia.
- Fantastic Voyage, the 1966 film starring Racquel Welch,
will be remade by the team of Emmerich and Devlin who brought us "ID4" and
"Stargate". They are also making the upcoming Godzilla film for Tri-Star Pictures,
not New Line Cinema as was reported in the last issue.
- Leave It To Beaver fans can look forward to seeing
a theatrical version of the popular TV show from the early 60's. The movie
should be opening this summer.
- Return Of The Apes is the working title for the rehash
of "Planet of the Apes". It has been in development for several years now.
The director assigned to the film is James Cameron of Terminator and
True Lies fame. Arnold is said to be interested in the lead but nothing
is definite at this point.
- Green Acres is the place to be, and Bette Midler is
going there in this homage to the 1960's classic TV show. She will be playing
the part of Lisa Douglas. The part of Oliver Wendell Douglas has not been
cast yet.
Count Floyd's Video Dungeon
Hollywood is really getting out of hand with "The 3-D House of Remakes". Are
they fresh out of ideas or what? What a pain in the neck. I like to tie my video
recommendations to the Movie News so this issue I'm going to recommend you check
out the original "Fantastic Voyage" with the luscious Racquel. I'd also like
to recommend Planet of the Apes with Charleston Heston, a true classic
for its time. Mix well with a big dose of popcorn and you'll have a howling
good time. AAAaawwoooo!
Scary Scary Trivia
This issue's trivia question was inspired by an e-mail from Tritone, a C*E*A
chatroom regular. The first person to answer it correctly will get an honorable
mention in the next issue of Count Floyd's Movie News. When "Godzilla, King
of the Monsters" came to U.S. theaters his name was changed to Godzilla from
his original Japanese name. What was Godzilla's original name in the Japanese
version?
Well I must fly now. See you around the middle of the month. Count Floyd will
appear in issue #3 titled "Dr. No, I requested a reduction
not an enlargement". Good midnight to ya. AAAaaawwoooo!
