Count Floyd's Movie News

The Morgue

Issue #3 ~ August 15, 1997

AAAaawwoooo! Hi kids, welcome to Castle Floyd, which sits high atop the crags overlooking the town of Mellonville. When in Mellonvile be sure to visit one of our sponsers like Dr. Tongue's 3-D House of Pancakes, home of that scary bottomless coffeepot. Ooh that coffeepot ... it sits there ... it has no bottom ... AAAaaawwoooo! It's a scary scary coffeepot.

Count Floyd put on a heavy dose of SPF 10,000 and ventured out to see "Spawn" last week. I really can't trash it too much because it was trying for something a bit different. I felt that the action scenes were spaced too far apart for my liking. Also, the computer generated action scenes were done at such a fast pace that they appeared blurry at times. John Leguizamo stole the show with his portrayal of The Clown who is Spawn's archrival. There were a lot of young kids between 6 to 10 years old at this screening even though the movie was rated PG-13. I truly feel this movie was way too intense and dark for those younger viewers. I may be old fashioned but I do wish parents would honor the PG codes for their kids' sake and for the sake of the viewing audience also.

Well, that sound means the movie news is just getting started. Let's take a look shall we?

Count Floyd's Video Dungeon

In this issue I would like to recommend the live action A Chinese Ghost Story. The film may be difficult to find in some areas. I found my copy at a Sci-Fi convention. It's an excellent blend of Kung-Fu, horror and fantasy. It is the tale of a young man who is forced by circumstances to spend the night in a haunted monastery where he meets a beautiful woman who turns out to be a ghost. They fall in love but cannot marry because of the evil witch who controls the lovely ghost. The witch is awesome because she uses her tongue as a weapon. In one scene our hero jumps onto a tree to avoid the tongue. The tongue stretches out from the witch's mouth and wraps around the tree and rips it in two just as our hero jumps away. Excellently produced by Tsui Hark and directed by Ching Tung, this was my first experience with Kung-Fu/Fantasy films and I've been a huge fan ever since. Ask around, maybe your friends know someone who has a copy. You'll be hooked too!

Scary Scary Trivia

The honorary title of Triviameister of Mellonville is bestowed upon Tritone, who was the first person to correctly answer last issue's trivia question. A tip o' the cape goes to Doug Y, Darien, Robert K and Coldwolf for coming up with the correct answer also. A nice try goes to SW for submitting the name Grogan for the monster. Sorry no, the correct answer is Gojira. The Triviameister of Mellonville asks: Tim Burton made his directorial debut in what black and white short film? The first person to answer this question correctly will become the new Triviameister who will then be given the option to ask the next trivia question.

THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. Oh oh. Everyone run away. Grogan is coming. Toy tanks can't stop him. Toy planes can't stop him either. He's just plain big. AAAaawwoooo! SPLAT. Count Floyd will return in issue #4 titled "From Russia With Borscht. Bolshoi. No really."
