Updating the anti-virus database

The application detects viruses and disinfects infected objects using the anti-virus database, which contains the definitions of all currently known viruses and methods for disinfection.
It is extremely important to update your anti-virus database periodically because new viruses appear every day.
Updating anti-virus database is an important function of Kaspersky Anti-Virus. By default, database updates are automatically downloaded from the Kaspersky Lab's update servers and installed on your computer every 3 hours. If you use your computer less than three hours a day, you are advised to either: change the frequency of the anti-virus database updates; leave your computer running; or, update the anti-virus database manually. Otherwise, the anti-virus database will not be updated.

You can update the anti-virus database manually. To do this:
right-click the icon in the system tray. When the shortcut menu appears, select Update Anti-Virus Database.

    or

open the Protection tab of the main application window and click link Update now in the left section.

    or

click link Update your anti-virus database in the right section of the Protection tab.

For more details on updating the anti-virus database see section Downloading updates.
