If viruses are found during the scan

If viruses are found during a scan, Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal, in accordance with the default settings, will notify you and offer several options for treating the infected objects.
Note that in 99% of cases, personal computers are infected by e-mail worms, Trojan programs, or viruses (for details on malicious computer programs see section Computer viruses and malicious computer programs). In most cases, all lost data can be successfully recovered.

In order to remove viruses from the infected objects:
  1. From the actions you may choose to be performed we recommend disinfect for infected objects, quarantine for possibly infected objects and delete for worms and Trojans. You can find the names of all viruses resident on your computer in the report (see section Working with reports).
  2. In certain cases, you may need a special utility to recover data that have been corrupted. Connect to the Internet, visit Kaspersky Lab website (http://www.kaspersky.com/) and read the information about the virus, Trojan horse, or worm that has infected your computer. Download a special utility for data recovery if such a program exists for this virus. For example, to recover data infected with the Klez virus, download and run clrav.com program.
  3. Read carefully any information about your problem available on the website. You will probably have to take additional measures.
  4. If your computer has been infected with viruses that exploit the vulnerability of Microsoft Outlook Express (such as Nimda, Klez, Batdrans), they can be re-activated even after Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal has cleaned the system, for example, when you open existing infected messages. To avoid this, you must set the protection mode that scans and disinfects e-mail databases (see section Protecting your mail from viruses) and install the latest security patches for Microsoft Outlook Express to ensure its safety in the future.
Unfortunately, some viruses cannot be completely removed from infected objects. Some of these viruses corrupt information on your computer during infection and this information sometimes cannot be repaired. If the Kaspersky Lab website indicates that the virus that has infected your system cannot be completely removed from your files, delete such infected files.
