Metaedit.exe: Metabase Editor

Server-only: This tool is included in the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit only.

Metabase Editor is a tool that allows you to browse and modify attributes in the IIS metabase. It is similar in functionality to Regedit.exe. This tool also allows you to backup, restore, import, and export the metabase; and add, modify, rename, and delete metabase keys.

While using Metabase Editor it is possible to make changes that could damage your IIS configuration. Be sure to edit all entries carefully.

About Metabase Consistency Checker

Metabase Consistency Checker performs the following tasks:

Checks for incorrect data
Validates package Class IDs (CLSIDs) against the registry
Ascertains whether the schema exists
Checks for case-sensitivity issues
Checks for unknown properties
Checks for missing mandatory properties
Evaluates branch size (and gives warnings if branch is very large, for example, big blob)
Checks some hard-coded cases (such as an application that must have a Component Services package)
Checks for /root/ in all w3svc/1/xxxx paths

Metabase Consistency Checker will not repair data, as this is a task for Metabase Browser/Editor. Also, if Metabase Consistency Checker finds more than 100 errors, it returns a "Too many errors" message for the 101st error.
