Httpmon.exe: HTTP Monitoring ToolNEW

Server-only: This tool is included in the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit only.

HTTP Monitoring Tool is a multithreaded Windows 2000 service-monitoring tool that gathers large amounts of data about a Web site. HTTP Monitoring Tool is controlled by a configuration file (HTTPMon.ini), which you must edit to suit your testing needs. It is designed to test a large number of computers through the configuration of the .ini file and generate either a standard comma-separated file (CSV), or entries in the Windows 2000 event log.

HTTP Monitoring Tool provides immediate monitoring of Web servers, without requiring specialized Web page development. You can also customize it to perform complex tests. HTTP Monitoring Tool was designed to use the existing pages on a Web server to capture the user's experience. In addition, you can use the Clusters and Friendly Names settings in HTTPMON.ini. With these, HTTP Monitoring Tool uses names that are meaningful to support personnel, which makes troubleshooting easier.

With some additional coding and implementation, it is possible to use the .csv file generated by the HTTP Monitoring Tool to import data into Microsoft® SQL Server™ databases, read from a custom application, perform Internet monitoring, or inform Operations and Technical Support personnel about server status. Code samples are provided in the Httpmon\Samples directory.
