There are three ways to install Windows 2000 Server on a computer that does not have an operating system:

On many computers the CD auto-boot capability is not enabled by default; however, you can enable it manually.

Note

If you load Windows 2000 Server from a network, you need the appropriate number of client licenses for the number of servers you are installing.

There are no preexisting services or applications for the initial setup for new member servers. In this case, you have a computer that is Windows 2000 Server–compliant and meets all the system requirements stated earlier in this chapter. The computer needs to be on a local area network (LAN) or have a supported CD-ROM drive, and have a formatted hard disk.
