Title: IBM PC Compatibility with Remote Reset Boot EPROMs
Prior to Advanced NetWare version 2.0, the Remote System Reset feature was
only supported on IBM brand PC workstations. Because of some changes that
were made to the code in the Advanced NetWare Remote Reset Boot EPROMs
versions 2.0 and above, some IBM PC compatible machines can now be used as
workstations with the Remote System Reset feature.
The ROM BIOS requirements for the Remote System Reset feature in IBM PC
compatibles are as follows:
1.When the PC is powered up, the BIOS must search the User ROM Address Area.
If a User ROM is found, the BIOS then must make a subroutine call on the
User ROM (CS:03). A return to the BIOS will be made from the User ROM.
See the IBM Technical Reference Manual for a detailed description of the
User ROM area and specifications.
2.After the BIOS finishes all its initialization and its diagnostics, it
must execute an INT 19h instruction (Boot Strap Loader).
For information concerning your ROM BIOS, contact your PC
supplier/manufacturer to confirm whether your PC supports these features.
Limited testing at Novell indicates that the Compaq PC portables, the Sperry
PC, the Santa Clara PC terminal, and the PC Solutions PC will work with
Advanced NetWare Remote Reset Boot EPROMs versions 2.0 and above.
