Stage 4 Overview: Customizing the Browser
In this stage of the Internet Explorer Customization wizard, corporate administrators can customize the following:
- The browser title bar and toolbar background bitmap. When you select a bitmap, make sure that the colors contrast with text.
- Browser toolbar buttons. You can add custom toolbar buttons to run scripts and programs.
- The Internet Explorer logo in the upper right corner of the browser.
- Home, search, and online support pages for the browser.
- Favorites, Favorites folders, and links for the Links bar
- Channels to enable users to receive content that's updated automatically.
- Welcome page, which appears when users start their browser for the first time.
- My Computer and Control Panel by specifying your own Mycomp.htt and Controlp.htt files, if you are also installing the Windows Desktop Update. You must have the Active Desktop installed on the build computer for this screen to be displayed.
- A user agent string. A user agent is optional; it's a way to track the usage of your customized browser.
- Automatic configuration. You can provide a path to files that automatically configure your browser.
- The user's connection settings by customizing the settings, importing your settings, or deleting the user's existing settings.
- Proxy settings.
- Desktop toolbar settings. You can import the desktop toolbar settings from your own computer as the standard for your company. You must have the Active Desktop installed on the build computer for this screen to be displayed.
- Active Desktop customization, if you are also installing the Windows Desktop Update. You must have the Active Desktop installed on the build computer for this screen to be displayed.
- Settings for security certificates and Authenticode.
- Settings for security zones and ratings.
