Getting Started in Lobster Fishing
Hardware Requirements
Lobster Fishing can be run from floppy disc or from a hard drive if you have one. We recommend that you
install the program onto a hard drive if you can as it significantly improves the time it takes to load, frees up
your floppy disc drive for other discs you may wish to use and reduces the need for frustrating disc
swapping. It also means that it is able to save its configuaration files, as other storage devices such as CD
ROM's are read-only.
Lobster Fishing requires a minimum of about 256KB to run, although if you want some of the more
advanced features such as sound and high quality graphics then it will need more - about 600KB. For ways
to free up memory please consult the Acorn user manual supplied with your computer. You must have RISC
OS 3.1 or greater for Lobster Fishing to work.
Installing and Running Lobster Fishing
If you are going to run Lobster Fishing from the CD you should carry out the following procedure:
- Insert your CD in the CD ROM drive and click on the CD drive icon on the iconbar. This will open a
directory display of the disc.
- Navigate through the directories on the disc until you find the !Lobster program.
- Double-click on the !Lobster icon in the directory display to run the program.

If you are going to run Lobster Fishing from your hard disc then you will first need to install it:
- Carry out steps 1 & 2 above.
- Open the destination directory - the place you want to copy it to on your hard disc.
- Drag the !Lobster icon from the floppy disc to the destination directory.
- Double-click on the !Lobster icon on the hard disc to run the program.
Getting Online Help
If you want some online help while you are playing then run the !Help program located in the Apps
Directory. This will open a window that displays messages about what is under the mouse pointer. If you
move the mouse over any of the Lobster Fishing windows or icons then it will give you some helpful
information about what that icon does and how to use it - try moving your mouse over the Lobster Fishing
icon on the icon bar or one of the Lobster Fishing windows. Further details about using !Help can be found
in the RISC OS user manual supplied with your computer.
What to do next
Once you have installed and run the program you are ready to play the game.

and give you a quick taste of what Lobster Fishing has to offer.
Other sections give a more detailed account of all the different menus and windows. Once
you feel happy with the operation of the game you can start experimenting with some of the more advanced strategies and features.
