Game Basics
There are a couple of fundamental concepts that you need to understand about the game before you will
understand what is going on.
Placing Pots
In the simulation you are trying to make money. The main way of doing this is catching and selling
lobsters. The amount of money you make depends on the number of lobsters you can catch. The main
thing you can do to influence the number you catch is to choose between placing your pots inshore and
offshore:
Inshore Pots
These pots only catch a few lobsters and so do not much money. However, they are very safe, and are
unlikely to be damaged or washed away in bad weather, so you will not loose the capital you have invested
in pots.
Offshore Pots
Pots that are placed offshore catch more lobsters then inshore ones and so make more money but they are
more prone to being damaged or lost in storms, and so the increased profit carries a certain level of risk.
Other Factors
The trade off between risk and profit is explored in the Hints and Strategies section. The
effect of the weather on the number of lobsters caught is described in the Features section.
