The OO Community

Unlike with VB, our working group had been thinking about the connection of OO with SSR from the start, and a number of our participants had experience with OO techniques.

With the VB discussion fresh on our minds, we observed that OO \ methods are a great deal harder to work with, but they in turn give the user a great deal more flexibility than VB. Still, Don Roberts pointed out that the OO philosophy is to write relatively small single user programs that can be composed using the standard set of tools used in a good C++ environment. In both environments, a great deal of relatively low level components are provided, ranging from user interface widgets, to basic data structures to numerical analysis routines.
