Example Scenarios

At the start of the working group, we began by producing a series of concrete examples drawn from participants' experience of domain engineering case studies (or projects analogous to domain engineering in relevant ways). For each case study, we briefly examined the representation strategies employed and the rationale for that choice of strategy. In this report, we will not provide details of the case studies, as this would require more careful documentation than is possible here. (We hope to incorporate thorough profiles of some case studies in follow-up reports on this material.)

For example, one participant described a domain model within the knowledge representation community, in the domain of software to watch for and intercept fraudulent usage of credit cards. In this example, one generic inference system was developed and tailored. The domain, properly speaking, was the domain of "bank card defrauding strategies."
