"This Guy will change Rock Guitar playing as we know it,It will never be the same"

Washington Hilton Ballroom, Washington DC March 10,1968

Hendrix was coming. That's all we talked about. We were turned on to Hendrix by listening to an FM station that played "Underground" music on Friday and Saturday nights from 9-12. (Hendrix,Iron Butterfly,Doors,Blue Cheer,Airplane, etc. That was the only place to here that kind of music in those days. Finally the day came.

There were to shows. We arrived for the second show early and saw Jimi leaving through a back door. After the 2nd show we ran back to the same door so we could try to get an autograph. Sure enough he came out after a few minutes,  I  asked him for an autograph but they were moving fast getting into the limousine. At that point I tried to grab his hat (it was the one he wore on the first album cover) he held on to it and said "man don't take my hat" they jumped into the limo and drove off around the corner. To our amazement the limo was waiting at the light as we turned the corner. I ran up, knocked on the window and said "give me your hat" the window came down and Jimi said "sorry man I can't give up this hat" so I said "well, give me something" he looked at the others, looked around and finally gave me his lighted cigarette (A Salem 100 that I kept In a baggie for years). The light changed and they drove off. Very exciting night for a 16 year old rock & Roller !!!

Year's later I realized that the door we were at was the same door that president Reagan got shot at after his speech in the same Hilton Ballroom.

Baltimore Civic Center: May 16, 1969

This was the place where we saw allot of shows before the Capital Center was built. Cream, Blind Faith, Rolling Stones, OK place for concerts, but a long drive to Baltimore.

Merriweather Post Pavilion:Columbia Maryland (Between Balt.&DC)

This was a great place for concerts. It's an open air arena. It had a roof but no sides. It started to rain and Jimi started to play with the thunder and lightning. Incredible show. This is where we saw Zeppelin open for the WHO.
