Bj÷rk, the best known Icelandic export since the Sagas, has been awarded the Knights Cross medal of honour by the President of Iceland Olafur Ragnar Grφmsson.

The award was issued at a ceremony held in the official Presidential residence of Bessastadir on April 24, Iceland's first day of summer holiday.

Among those also honoured with medals were Olafur G. Einarsson, president of the Althing, Iceland's lawmaking assembly, and Th≤rarinn Tyrfingsson, a physician who has pioneered drug and alcohol rehabilitation work in Iceland.
