Anemone hortensis family: Ranunculaceae (Buttercup)

photo This delicate flower grows singly on stems up to 45 cm high, often with many growing together in a small area. The flower has from 12 to 19 sepals, about 5 cm across. The color is from pale to dark purple, and can be faded to almost pure white.

Leaves
A rosette of 3-lobed divided leaves grows at the base of the plant, and a whorl of narrow bracts grows about half way up the stem.

Habitat
Fields, cultivated ground, vineyards and olive groves.
