NODC Products and Services

NODC Online Access
Online Data and Information is now available to NODC users. As new data and information resources are prepared for online access, this system will be continually expanded.

NODC Oceanographic Databases
The NODC holds global databases of physical, chemical, and biological oceanographic data, as well as many individual datasets. These data can be provided to users on a variety of media and via FTP.

NODC CD-ROM Data Products
Since 1990, the NODC has been working to issue its major databases on CD-ROM. Several dozen discs are already available, and new discs are in production and planned for future release.

NODC Publications
In addition to conference proceedings and papers published in the scientific literature, the NODC publishes technical reports and data inventories. The NODC also produces two quarterly publications, the Mariners Weather Log and the Earth System Monitor.

International Oceanographic Data Exchange
The NODC receives data from other countries through direct bilateral exchanges and through World Data Center A for Oceanography, which is operated by the NODC. To increase the volume of historical ocean data available to researchers, the NODC is coordinating the Global Oceanographic Data Archaeology and Rescue project.

NOAA Library and Information Network
Since 1989, the NODC has been responsible for managing the NOAA Library and Information Network. The network includes the NOAA Central Library, plus NOAA regional and field libraries.

Other Oceanographic Sources and Services

As a service to users, the following links to other oceanographic resources are provided:

Global oceanographic parameter plots from the Climatological Atlas of the World Oceans (Levitus 1982) (Available from NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory)
University of East Anglia Library of Ocean Resources World Wide Web Virtual Library: Oceanography (Available from the School of Mathematics, University of East Anglia)
University of Tokyo basic and comprehensive research in the marine sciences (Available from the Oceanographic Research Institute, University of Tokyo)
The U.S. Joint Global Ocean FLUX STUDY (JGOFS) provides information on the role of the ocean in the global carbon cycle.
Several organizations contribute toward producing "A Guide to Tide Gauge Networks and Global and Regional Sea Level Data Sets."
The JPL Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC) archives and distributes data relevant to the physical state of the oceans.

Electronic Mail to the NODC

Email to employees at NODC can be sent to nodc.noaa.gov. If you know the name of the person you wish to contact, the mail can be addressed using the person's first initial and last name, like this: jsmith@nodc.noaa.gov or rjones@nodc.noaa.gov.
