ííííThe Avalokitesvara is one the eight Bodhisattvas signifying the compassion and pity of Buddha nature to deliver all living creatures from torment. According to the Buddhist scriptures, there are six Avalokitesvaras. Most of the Thousand-arm Avalokitesvaras are combined with the 11 faced-Avalokitesvaras having blue on the left face and red on the right. There are also three faces in its second level, the yellow face on the right, the red on the left. The smiling features of its third level have green on the right face and purple on the left. The wrathful feature of the fourth level has green hair and a red or golden Amitabha on the head. This is Avalokitesvaraí»s real depiction metamorphosed with the body of the Amitabha. Legend says that the 11faced Avalokitesvara became that way after defeating the man-eating demon with 10 faces.

ííííWhen the Thousand-arm Avalokitesvara saw the sufferings of mankind, he vowed to deliver all living creatures from torment, thus he made his body into 42 pieces and made the 42 pieces into Avalokitesvaras, but still he was lacking the capabilities. He combined the pieces into one but remained 42 arms and each arm with an eye to show the 42 pieces of his body since he got teachings from Amitabha. The staff, hook, mirror, scripture, lotus, grape etc, in his hands have different meanings.
