Marrón por arriba, con gorra castaña y una línea clara sobre el ojo. Tamaño: 13.3 cm.; peso: 12 g. Audio (M. Oberle). Anida en pantanos y en los matorrales densos flanqueando los arroyos montanos del sureste de Estados Unidos . Se mueve de un lado para el otro en el piso del bosque, volviendo hojas con el largo pico en busca de alimento. Inverna en Cuba, La Española y Jamaica, siendo, sin embargo, una especial accidental en Puerto Rico donde frecuenta bosques costeros, secos y húmedos (por ejemplo, un avistamiento el 16 de enero de 1992 en el Bosque Estatal de Maricao).
