Dull brown above, with a chestnut cap and a light eye line. Length: 13.3 cm.; weight: 12 g. Audio (M. Oberle). Breeds in dense riverside thickets in the mountains and lowland swamps of the southeastern USA. It feeds by shuffling along the forest floor, turning over leaves with its large bill. Winters in Cuba, Hispaniola and Jamaica, but accidental in coastal, dry and wet forests of Puerto Rico, e.g., 16 January 1992, Maricao State Forest.
