Red-necked Phalarope

Phalaropus lobatus

Menor que el Falaropo de Wilson. En plumaje de invierno presenta una mancha negra en la cara y estrφas grises en la espalda. Tama±o: 18-19 cm.; peso: machos 33 g., hembras 39 g. Anida en los humedales de Alaska, el norte de Canadß, Groenlandia y Eurasia, invernando mayormente en el mar. Accidental en Puerto Rico, pero probablemente mßs com·n lejos de la costa de lo que se piensa. (Por ejemplo, existen registros del 24 de abril de 1980, dos ejemplares fueron avistados en Cabo Rojo el 30 de diciembre de 1977, e individuos solitarios fueron vistos el 29 de diciembre de 1999, el 17 de marzo de 2000 y el 8 de noviembre de 2000, tambiΘn en Cabo Rojo; observaci≤n en punta Guaniquilla, 18 de febrero de 2001).

TAXONOMÍA: CHARADRIIFORMES ; SCOLOPACIDAE; Phalaropodinae. En inglΘs antiguamente llamado "Northern Phalarope". En espa±ol tambiΘn llamado Falaropo Picofino, aunque el Falaropo de Wilson tambiΘn posee el pico fino.
