Similar to the much more common Orange-cheeked Waxbill, but with a narrow red eye line, and has a dark rather than red rump. Length: 9-10 cm. Native to the savannahs of western and central Africa. Introduced in lowland Puerto Rico, probably from Mali or Senegal, but this species has become increasingly rare in eastern Puerto Rico in the last few years. Recent sightings in Humacao.
