About Bula'bula

Bulabula is a locally owned and controlled Aboriginal artists co-operative which markets the work of local painters, weavers and sculptors from the Ramingining and Milingimbi area. With an Executive Council made up of principal artists and spokespersons from the area, and the guidance of Art Advisor Libby Rayner, Bulabula Arts undertakes national and international exhibitions, commissions, and public art projects each year.

Arnhem Land artists are renowned for bark painting; their paintings have been collected by Europeans since the mid-19th century.

These stunning traditional and innovative fibre arts indicate the balance and natural ease of the relationship that Aboriginal people have with their landscape and its plants. Twined, coiled, woven and knotted, the decorative effects produced are a fine example of the patience, industry and skill that have been part of the Aboriginal presence in Australia for millennia.
