PhotoMann in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of my favorite cities in Asia. It's a city with almost everything one would ever want. This old British colony reminds me a lot Travel Articleof Berlin in that it offers a lot for everyone. A city dweller can be easily escape in minutes to the countryside. Sunset Over Hong Kong

This sunset over Hong Kong represents the sun setting over colonial rule. 30 June 97 was the last day of British control. Control reverted to China on 1 July.

Hong Kong is a wonderful place explore day and night. Nathan road is always brilliantly lit. This image graced the cover of an issue of the Kadena Shogun newspaper which contained a Hong Kong travel article I wrote.

Nathan Road

Nathan road is a hub of activity day and night. An infinite array of shops can be found. Note: Be very cautious dealing with the electronics vendors. They are notorious for misleading people to sell anything in their stores.

Old Clock Tower

This clock tower is all that remains from the old Rail Road station at the tip of Kowloon.

Hong Kong Pharmacy

Local pharmacies are famous for their old fashioned remedies.

Bird Market

The bird market is a narrow alley filled with shops selling a large variety of birds, cages, live bugs for food, etc. I highly recommend making a visit.

Live Grasshoppers

This shop at the bird market sells very large live grasshoppers. Some of them are 8+ centimeters long!

Jade Market

Hong Kong's famous Jade Market has about 450 stalls selling jade of all colors. Bargain hard!

Stanley Harbor

Stanley is a wonderful village on Hong Kong Island. Most visitors go there for it's famous market but the scenery makes exploring the area a must.

Unfortunately this view no longer exists due to a new park that was built by filling in part of the harbor.

There are a few nice beaches in Stanley.

Along the waterfront there are several cafes and pubs offering light meals and cold beer.

Hong Kong Sundays

On Sundays in Hong Kong many open spaces are filled with people enjoying each other's company and having picnics.

Aberdeen Harbor

This harbor is filled with junks and fishing boats. It's also the home of the famous floating restaurants.

Junk Maintenance

Chung Chau is a worthwhile day trip. This small island has a small harbor filled with old fashioned junks. There are no vehicles but you can walk everywhere easily.
