The International Airport of Tokyo is located in Narita, Chiba prefecture, one hour from Tokyo by train.
The Terminal 1 is the older terminal and used by airlines like: American Airline, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Lufthansa, KLM and others.
The Terminal 2 is the modern terminal and used by the Japanese airlines, Austrian Airlines, SAS, Swissair and others.
How to go to Tokyo:
- JR Narita Express (NEX): A modern, beautiful train to Tokyo station (60 min), Shinjuku (80 min), Ikebukuro (90 min), and Yokohama (100 min). You have to make reservations. The NEX is expensive (about $30) but fast and comfortable.
- Keisei Skyliner: To Ueno Keisei station which is located a few uncomfortable steps from the JR Ueno station. The ride takes a little more than an hour but is cheaper than the NEX (about $20). You have to make a reservation.
- JR Narita Airport (rapid): To Tokyo station, Shinagawa, Yokohama. Stops more (90 min to Tokyo station) than the NEX but costs half as much. You can't make reservations.
- Keisei Limited Express: To Ueno and sometimes farther via the Toei Asakusa line (subway) to Shimbashi, Sengakuji, Gotanda,... Stops more than the Skyliner but is cheaper (about $10). You can't make reservations.
- Limousine Bus: Bus connection to Tokyo and Yokohama. Takes longer than the trains but costs almost as much as the NEX (about $25).
- Hotel Busses
- Taxi: The airport is far out of Tokyo. A taxi ride might cost about $200 and take about 80 minutes.
The second largest international airport of Japan is the new Kansai International Airport in the Kansai region (Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe).
